Get Rid of Deer Pests with Havahart Electronic Deer Repeller and Night Guard Red Light

by Barbara 29. July 2013 04:19

Question about how to get rid of deer day and night.

Question:"I have deer roaming through my yard, munching on my trees. This happens during the day and at night. Using deer repellent sprays and granules takes a lot of work. I don't want to install an electric fence as it is unsightly. What do you suggest? Thanks. John

Answer: I have two suggestions. One is the Havahart Electronic Deer Repellent and the other is the Nite-Guard. If you combine the two units, you should reduce deer damage significantly.

The Havahart® electronic repellent for deer uses a behavioral modification technique. The Havahart 5250 attracts deer short range by using an acorn scented deer lure. When a deer touches the post, he or she gets a gentle static shock. So you train the deer to stay out of your yard. This electronic deer repellent includes 3 units, aromatic lure, instructions, cotton balls, and order form for additional lure.

Electronic Repellent for Deer from Havahart®

  • 3 green and silver posts with red tops: Place 5 to 20 feet apart.
  • Aromatic lure, instructions, cotton balls, and order form for additional lure.
  • Delivers 400 volts (substantially less voltage than static shock) with virtually no amps (.01 Joules) to harmlessly repel deer
  • Covers approximately 1,200 sq. ft
  • Requires 6 AA batteries (not included).
  • Average battery life is over one year
  • Easy to assemble and install
  • Portable and effective

Add the Nite-Guard for additional deer repelling at night. Also discourages pest animals like coyote, fox, bear, mountain lion, wolf, bobcat, owls, raccopns, human intruders, hawks, mink, weasel, A great product to help protect your campsite from animal pests.

Nite Guard Solar is a solar-powered flashing red light for night animal control. When positioned correctly, this automatic red flashing light repels night pest animals that could harm  livestock or gardens. Nite Guard SolarTM is based on scientific research: night animals flee as they fear they have been discovered or are being watched. Completely weatherproof. Functions to -20 degrees F. Operates in a single direction: 30 degrees angle of sight to right or left. Add additional units to protect large areas. Requires minimum of 4 hours of direct sunlight to flash: turns on at dusk, turns off at daylight.

Nite-Guard Main Features:

  • Automatic red light flashing begins at dusk and lasts until dawn.
  • Completely weatherproof: can work submerged in water.
  • Tab for hanging on nail or screw
  • Requires minimum of 4 hours direct sunlight to maintain internal battery charge. Full charge may require several days of sunlight. Not for use in forests!
  • Functional to -20 degrees F.
  • Coverage: approximately 60 degrees, 30 to each side of the Nite-Guard.
  • For best coverage, use 4 or more units. Consider height of animals against which you want to protect your property when mounting unts.
  • Warranty: 1 year from manufacturer. Typical life span: about 2-3 years minimum.

Thanks for your question. Please take some action and save your yard, trees and garden.

Sincerely,

Barbara

Questions and Answers About XP3 Deer Avoidance Systems for Motorcycles, Trucks, Cars, Trains

by Barbara 25. October 2012 07:06

Questions about the XP3 Electronic Deer Avoidance Systems.

Q: "I have a friend who has an XP3 Deer Hornet on his motorcycle. I'd like more information before I add one to mine. Please give me information about this system, how it works, etc. Thanks. Tim."

Answer: The XP3 was invented by Otto Jackson after a motorcycling friend hit a deer. Otto has shared several stories with me, even about how he was once riding in Florida and his XP3 hornet kept a runaway bull from hitting his motorcycle. This is information from XP3 about the Hornet. Quantity Discounts Available. Models available for tractor trailer trucks, RV's, Motor Homes, trains, etc.

Q. Is The Hornet a deer whistle?
A. No. The Hornet should not be compared with air activated deer whistles. In the lab and field testing we performed on deer whistles from 1995 to 1998, we found that air activated deer whistles require a minimum of a 48 M.P.H. Direct air flow to produce any measurable sound level. In our opinion, air activated deer whistles have little to no effect on deterring deer/vehicle accidents.
Q. What is The Hornet?
A. The Hornet is a small electrically powered sonic generator which produces a high powered directional sonic wave. This wave can be tracked at 1600 feet and has demonstrated the ability to alert deer and most other animals of an approaching vehicle with sufficient time and distance to avoid deer/vehicle accidents.
Q. What is Wave Variance Tuning?
A. Wave Variance Tuning combines reverberation and reflection of the signal. The sound wave begins to reverberate as it travels through the barrel of The Hornet. The reverberating wave is then reflected off the road surface, creating a virtual sonic echo effect and allowing the sound wave to carry a much longer distance.
Q. Is The Hornet ultra-sonic?
A. The Hornet operates at a fixed frequency of a 5,000 Hz. square wave pattern and uses Sonic Systems' exclusive Wave Variance tuning, which takes a secondary frequency to the 18,000 to 21,000 Hz. range, well within the normal human's hearing.
Q. Can people hear The Hornet?
A. Most animals, including people, hear within the same frequency ranges, although some animals can hear tones several thousand hertz higher. For most people, The Hornet's output falls within the upper end of their range of hearing and is clearly audible. However, some people, primarily older people, have a narrower hearing range and may not be able to hear The Hornet.
Q. When should I use my Hornet?
A. Always use The Hornet when driving in high-risk areas. Remember that deer are most active from dusk until dawn. Always drive with your headlights on in high-risk areas, stay alert and pay attention to the roadside. Be prepared to act quickly at the first sign of an animal. Blow your horn and NEVER swerve into oncoming traffic or attempt to dodge an animal by driving off the road surface.
Q. If I install The Hornet on my vehicle, will I never hit a deer?
A. The Hornet is not a magical device, although it is a highly effective deterrent against deer/vehicle collisions. We estimate, using The Hornet along with driver awareness, will reduce your risk of a deer/vehicle accident by more than 70%. The Hornet was tested on deer accident-prone police and emergency vehicles over a 3-year period with more than 6 million proven accident-free miles before it was brought to market.
Q. Will I hear the sonic wave in my vehicle?
A. You will not hear The Hornet while you are driving or riding. However, you may hear The Hornet when your vehicle is stopped or you enter an enclosed parking structure such as a parking garage. The wave is very directional and will reflect back from any solid object.
Q. Can The Hornet be installed on a motorcycle?
A. Yes. There is a special motorcycle wiring harness available for The Hornet. It consists of a wiring harness with the new weather-tight connector, control switch and inline fuse.
Q. Will The Hornet annoy pets?
A. Like you, pets will be able to hear The Hornet. We recommend you turn your Hornet off while you are operating your vehicle in a confined residential area, campground, etc. Most animals, particularly non-domesticated animals, may react in some fashion to The Hornet.
Q. Will The Hornet bother my cat or dog in the car?
A. No. Just as you cannot hear The Hornet while you are driving, neither will your animals. The Hornet's directional sonic wave is focused ahead of your vehicle.
Q. Can I turn The Hornet on and off?
A. Yes. The Hornet comes with a toggle switch and switch plate to be mounted either underneath your dashboard or in the dash itself. We recommend using the switch so that you may turn The Hornet on when needed and off if you are in a residential area, parking garage, etc.
Q. Why must The Hornet be pointed at the road surface?
A. The Hornet uses the surface of the road as a reflective plane.
Q. Will The Hornet scare the deer away?
A. The Hornet will alert the animal of your approaching vehicle with sufficient time to avoid a costly collision. Deer are a highly skittish animal and will normally react to The Hornet by stopping, looking and listening to determine if they are being threatened.
Q. Is The Hornet hard to install?
A. No. If you are familiar with and can use normal hand tools, you can install The Hornet in 15 minutes or less. If you are capable of mounting driving lights or installing a radio, youcan easily install The Hornet.
Q. Where do I mount The Hornet?
A. The Hornet may be mounted anywhere under the front side of the vehicle where it has an unobstructed, clear view of the road surface. Ideal locations include under the bumper, behind an open pattern grill, on a cross-member, on the radiator shroud, etc.
Q. Can I mount The Hornet inside the car?
A. No. The Hornet is a small sonic generator that produces a very focused wave that must be projected directly ahead of the vehicle for maximum effectiveness. Therefore, it must be mounted outside the vehicle with a clear, unobstructed view of the road surface, facing forward and pointed at a 45-degree angle to the road surface.
Q. If I do not wish to install The Hornet myself, where can I take it for installation?
A. Any car dealership, mechanical garage, or company that installs radios, CB's, fog lights, etc. can install The Hornet within a few minutes.
Q. Will the weather affect The Hornet?
A. No. The Hornet is water-resistant and is not affected by normal high and low temperature conditions. However, The Hornet is not completely waterproof. If it is submerged in water, the driver circuitry can be damaged. In addition, The Hornet should be protected from any direct water flow, such as a high-powered water jet that may be found in a car wash.
Q. When I have my car washed, will it affect The Hornet?
A. No. However, care should be taken to protect The Hornet from any direct water spray into the output barrel using a plastic bag or other simple cover.
Q. Can The Hornet be left on all the time?
A. Yes. However, we recommend using The Hornet primarily in high-risk areas and while driving at night.
Q. What is the effective range of The Hornet?
A. Models V-120 and V-120C have a wave carrying length of 1,700 feet and an effective range of 800 feet. This means that deer will be aware of your oncoming vehicle 800 feet away and, under ideal conditions, will be aware of your vehicle from as far as 1,700 feet away.
Q. What is the life expectancy of The Hornet?
A. The Hornet has proven to be an extremely reliable electronic device. The oldest Hornets have now been in use for five years without failure.
Q. What is the warranty of The Hornet?
A. The Hornet comes with a 90-day limited warranty and a lifetime service policy. If The Hornet fails during the warranty period, the Company will replace it at no cost to you. If The Hornet fails to operate after the warranty period, the Company will repair or replace The Hornet as necessary for a small service charge plus shipping and handling.
Q. Is The Hornet effective on all animals, such as moose, cows, kangaroo, etc.?
A. Not necessarily. The Hornet is very effective with deer due to the fact that deer have extremely keen hearing and are very skittish animals. Deer will hear The Hornet's sonic wave up to 1,700 feet away, allowing them more than ample time to assess where the sound is coming from, determine that there is possible danger, and move away from the road surface.
Q. Can I use The Hornet to keep deer out of my yard?
A. No. The Hornet is effective on a moving vehicle due to the fact that it is an unfamiliar sound to the animal and is not constant. If The Hornet is used in a fixed location, it will be effective for a short period of time until the animal becomes accustomed to the sonic wave.
Q. Will The Hornet affect my vehicle's electrical system?
A. No. The Hornet uses less than 10mA of electrical power, which is less than the dome light in your vehicle.
Q. How do I know if The Hornet is working?
A. Most people will be able to hear the sonic wave when The Hornet is turned on and the vehicle is stopped (with the window rolled down) or parked.
Q. How does the new V-Series differ from the older S-Series?
A. The new Hornet V Models utilize the latest and most reliable electronic technology and do not require grounding to the vehicle chassis. The V Models also come with a 4’ pigtail and a 3.5mm plug which connects to a new wiring harness which is complete with an inline fuse and does not require drilling a hole in the firewall for the control switch.
Q. What is the difference between the models of the V-120 and the V-135 interstate?
A.

The V-120 in black and V-120C in chrome are 120 dB units with a wave carrying length of approximately 1,700 feet. The V-120C Model has the same specifications as the V-120 except it is triple chrome plated which makes it ideal for motorcycles and certain applications where chrome would be wanted.

The V-135 Interstate is a 135 dB unit with a wave carrying length of approximately 2,200 feet. Because of its power and range, the V-135 is designed to be used on interstate highways and rural high-risk areas.

If you have additional questions, let me know and I'll get the answers from Otto. If you care about your life, remember to be alert at all times of deer, moose, elk, etc. and install a Hornet.

Thanks for your question.

Sincerely, Barbara

How Do Bird-X Yard Gard, Deer Gard and Balcony Gard Animal and Bird Pest Repellers Differ

by Barbara 10. July 2012 10:04

Question about the differences among the Bird-X Products besides the colors.

Q: "What differences are there among the Yard Gard, Deer Gard and Balcony Gard products? All three look the same to me except for the colors. I want to get rid of pest birds. Thanks. Tim."

Answer: The YardGard Electronic Animal Repeller and BirdX DEERGARD Electronic Deer Repeller have identical controls on the back. All three will get rid of pest birds. Only the color differs. The green is less obvious when nestled among green plants. The brown is barely noticeable when mounted on trees. Remember if you use these products to keep animals away from bird feeders that you must distance them from the feeders. Many people use them as a perimeter boundary, i.e. they mount  them on the trees facing away from their yards at a distance from feeders. If you place the units near bird feeders, you will scare awy the birds, too!

The Balcony Gard is a light beige color, less obvious for mounting on balconies of apartments, condos, etc. This is used primarily to get rid of birds from balconies, decks, etc. You can also change the settings to keep small animals away.

All three units can be set to repel birds, small animals and deer.  All three units can be run continuously off AC power or can be set on motion sensor only to run from C batteries, not included.

The Yard Gard Manual and the Deer Gard manual are identical.

Caution: these units should not be placed so that the sounds are directed at people. The best results for all the units is to use them with other types of pest repellent products. For example, add holographic ribbon or a Terror Eyes balloon to your Balcony Gard for better bird repeller results.

Thank you for your question.

Bird-X Irri-Tape and Tanglefoot Bird Repeller Ribbon Bird Control Products for Backyard Pool

by Barbara 30. June 2012 09:29

Question about bird control products for swimming pool areas and boat docks.

Q: "Birds keep pooping in my swimming pool.  What easy to install products are there to get rid of pest birds? Thanks. Tim."

If you have trees or poles around your swimming pool, the best inexpensive bird control products are the bird repellent ribbons.

My suggestions are:

The Tanglefoot repeller ribbon is 2 inches wide and 100 feet long. It also keeps deer away. This bird repeller ribbon makes an audible sound when the wind moves it plus the sun hits the ribbon and causes it to appear like a flashing light. Cut into 2 to 3 feet lengths and use twine to attach to tree branches, post, etc. Let it hang freely and replace when sun bleached.

The Bird-X Holograhpic Irri-Tape is made of 2 mil polyester ribbon imprinted with a holographic pattern of interlocking circles. The pattern resembles owl eyes, the natural predator of many birds. This is a 3 dimensional image that reflects all the spectrum colors with laser-like intensity. The visual deterrent also is perceived as a ripple pattern. Even the slightest breeze produces a fierce metallic-sounding "rattle" plus you can install it like a physical barrier. For that install in a linear fashion along a ledge, fence, etc. to deter birds from their "landing strips." Support brackets are included for installation. You can use several different patterns. For example, the maypole would need 12 or more lengths on the 2 inch by 2 inch fence post. For orchards, you can wrap the tree by spiraling the Irri-Tape around it from bottom to top. Or you can add cross stips to the main lengths of Irri-tape to make a streamer applicaton.

If you have a railing around the pool, you can also attach the streamers there.

For additional effectiveness, add "scarecrow" devices such as the < ahref="http://www.safehomeproducts.com/shp2/product/terror-eyes-moving-eye-holographic-bird-repeller-ball/visual-scare-devices/93/93.aspx"> Terror Eyes Moving Eye Holographic Bird Repeller Ball or the Tanglefoot Inflatable Birdchaser Balloon, Yellow. The "eyes" on these devices scare away birds. The BirdChaser ball has streamers. The Terror Eyes is mounted on a support that helps it bounce around even with little wind.

If these are not effective, then you need to consider a battery powered or electric bird repeller device. The BalconyGard by Bird-X uses either batteries or AC to keep birds away. It is weatherproof. Or target a particular bird types with a Bird-X Peller Pro1 Pigeon Sonic Bird Repeller which also gets rid of starlings, sparrows and seagulls.

Advantages of New V-120 XP3 Hornet Deer Repeller for Cars and Motorcycles Over Older Models

by Barbara 2. August 2010 08:44

Question about the New XP3 Hornet, Model V-120

Q: "I have an older model of the Hornet electronic deer repeller. I just got a new car. I'd like to know how this model differs so I know if I should buy a new unit or re-install the old one. Thanks. Jack."

Answer: Protection against car deer accidents is easier with the new model. The new Hornet V Models utilize the latest and most reliable electronic technology: you do not have to ground the new unit to the vehicle chassis. The V series Hornets come with a 4' pigtail and a 3.5mm plug that connects via a new weather tight connector to a new wiring harness. The easy mount bracket lets you mount the unit to the license plate bracket. The new automotive wiring harness is 10 feet long and comes complete with an inline fuse. You do not have to drill a hole in the firewall for the control switch as you did with the older version. The combined total length of the new 10' automotive wiring harness and the 4' pigtail wire connected to the V series is 14 feet which makes installation easier.  The most unique feature of the automotive V series Hornets is that the wiring harness does not carry power. The automotive V series switches the ground so a short circuit can never occur. This means you can wrap the wiring harness around and through the door jam without the possiblity of a short circuit. The V series motorcycle harness also has the new weather tight 3.5mm plug and a redesigned switch housing for easy installation.

XP3 Hornet V-120 Black or Chrome Deer Accident Avoidance Features:

  • Sound Pressure Level: 120dB (A.S.)
  • Operating Base Frequency: 4.8 ± 0.5 kHz
  • WV Ultrasonic Wave: 18,000 to 21,000 Hz
  • Wave Carrying Length: 1,600 Ft. ±
  • Effective Range: 700 Ft.
  • Operating Voltage Range: 8-16 VDC
  • Current Consumption: 10mA (max.) at 12 VDC
  • The chrome model is very popular with motorcycle owners and those with more expensive sporty cars.

The Hornet has a 90 day limited warranty and a lifetime service policy by the manufacturer.

    Thank you for your question.

Deer Accident Prevention with the Electronic XP3 Hornet for Cars, Trucks and Motorcycles.

    by Barbara 13. September 2009 06:00

Question about the XP3 Electronic Deer Hornet to scare deer off roads to avoid car accidents or motorcycle deer accidents.

Q: "What makes this deer repeller device better than the less expensive "deer horns" you can install on your front bumper? Could I install this myself? I have a motorcycle plus two cars. Some of my friends recommend this device, especially in the fall during rutting season. Please advise." Thanks. Joe.

Answer: Joe, I will list some basic reasons that this unit is superior over the plastic whistle devices you can fix to your car.

    1. Power: Hornet: Electric sound generator sounds at 120 decibels that carries at least 800 feet in front of the vehicle no matter what your speed. Compare to air being pushed through plastic tubes that make no sound unless you are going 35 mph or gaster.
    2. Mounting Angle: Hornet sound generator, 45 degree angle to road. Plastic whistles: aim straight ahead.
    3. Secure Mount versus glue or tape: Hornet won't be pulled off or broken off in a car wash.
    4. Variable Mounting Height: Hornet: mount 3 inches to 6 feet above the road surface; plastic mount on front
    5. Mounting Damage to Car: With EZ Mount Bracket, the Hornet can be mounted to the license plate holder without drilling a single hole.
    6. Intensity of Sound: Hornet's is the same at any speed. Precision tuned sonic generator produces a high pitched, directional sonic wave that reflects off the road surface of a moving vehicle and produces a virtual sonic echo effect.
    7. Deer and Other Animals Get Advance Warning: Due to intensity of sound. Deer are skittish. More likely to bolt in the other direction if they approach this sound.

70% less likely to have a deer accident if you install this unit on your vehicle and keep your eyes open.

Yes, you can install this unit yourself. There is a motorcycle wiring harness kit available which allows installation without any holes being drilled. Most of our motorcycle customers buy the XP3 Hornet in Chrome. The inventor developed this unit after a friend was killed on a motorcycle after hitting a deer and then he himself hit a deer with his car the next week. These units are also installed on train engines particularly in the Northeast and Japan (our sales).

For motorhomes, RV's and freight trucks, the larger dual horn Interstate Hornet is a better choice as it has an effective range of about 1000 feet. Several large trucking companies are regular customers. In rural areas, especially on interstate highways, these are much superior to the smaller units.

Thanks for your question. Safe Roads to you from Safe Home Products.

    Sincerely, Barbara

Which Deer Repellent Products Work the Best in Winter and Summer?

    by Barbara 20. January 2009 06:23

Question about the Deergard, Deer Scram, Scoot Deer, Deer Chaser, ShakeAway Deer and Plant Saver All Natural Rabbit and Deer Repellent.

Q: "I have a deer problem and wonder which product or products will be most effective to discourage deer from my yard. Thanks."

Answer: Using several products typically works the best. My suggestions are to use at minimum the Deergard and Deer Scram if it is a winter problem. For warmer weather, the Water Scarecrow is quite effective. The Deergard also keeps out most wandering animals depending upon the height at which it is mounted. Hungry deer will ignore most repellent products especially once patterns of travel are set. And often even if not hungry, they will attempt their old trails even if there is now a 6 ft chain link fence in the way. (I had 500 feet replaced three years after it was installed as the deer butted huge dents in it the first two years.)

Plant Saver All Natural Rabbit and Deer Repellentwhich is hung on plants or sprinkled on the ground, works quite well for up to 6 months. 100% organic deer repeller granules and rabbit repel by Cedar Creek Products . Won't wash off in the rain. Lasts up to six months. Safe to use on fruits and vegetables. Used by thousands nationwide. Safe for animals and the environment. 2 pound bag. Included are 10 small bags, each should be filled up about 1/2 ounce of product. Place every 4-6 feet along the edge or your garden or tie the small bags to shrubs or trees. Safe for lawns, paths and gardens. This lasts about 6 months depending upon the climate. Also you may sprinkle Plant Saver around the border of a particular area: this lasts about 3 months depending upon the climate. To keep dogs and racoons away, wet bags and roll in pepper. Made in USA in Arborvitae, Wisconsin. Net weight: not less than 28 ounces. Also repels elk, moose and opossum. Active ingredients: 19% Sodium lauryl sulfate and 6% Cloves. If food is limited or a favorite food is readily available, deer have been know to ignore many types of repellents. As with humans, predicting deer behavior is not a guarantee.

Deer Scram, a granular product spread on the ground, is guaranteed to work in winter, too. "Deer Scram works effectively in winter to get rid of deer. No mixing is required: easily sprinkle the granular formula in any conditions. Apply as directed above in late November or before first heavy snow. Works well under up to 18 inches of fresh snow. Can be applied on top of existing snow cover. Re-apply after 100 days. Note: If snow becomes crusted or iced over an application of Deer Scram, break up the crust and re-apply in the loose snow."

Scoot Deer is a liquid with micro-encapsulated particles. This new formula is active for up to 30 days and is water resistant. One treatment has full strength effects that last up to15 days and as much as 50% protection for a full month. It appears better to be used on grass and plants and also works for rabbits.

The Deergard has a built-in infrared motion sensor that activates when pests move into the repellent's coverage zone. Use it with the continuous or motion-sensor operation settings and adjust the frequency to keep out other pests like raccoons, dogs, etc. On the deer setting, it is silent. Mounts anywhere with keyhole slot. The Deer Chaser uses an infrared sensor that activates a light and/or a radio (choose your favorite station or your least favorite) to scare off deer.

Do remember that batteries can freeze. So using a unit with an AC adapter means you'll get sounds even in the most bitter cold.

Thanks again for your questions. We stock these products on site 365 days per year except for Deer Fortress which is a growing season product.
    Sincerely, Barbara

Does the Deerguard Effect Dogs and Cats?

    by Barbara 11. August 2008 12:29

Question about the Product: BirdX DEERGARD Electronic Deer Repellent

Q: "Can the Deergard be used against deer without irritating dogs and cats effectively? I need 16 units- is there low voltage units available? What frequency to work on deer but not dogs and cats? Thanks, Alan"

Answer: If you position the units facing out from your property, the Deergard units should have no effect on the dogs and cats on your property. Unless your animals have unusual hearing abilities, the ultrasonic frequency of 15 kHz to 25 kHz (adjustable) or 15,000 Hz to 25,000 Hz of the Deergard should cause no issue at all to any dogs or cats.

The frequency range of dog hearing is approximately 40 Hz to 60,000 Hz, depending on the breed of dog as well as its age. Like humans, dogs can begin to go deaf as they become older. In some breeds of dogs, complete deafness occurs in old age.

The cat hearing range (in Hz) is 45 to 64,000, compared to 64-23,000 in humans. So cats can hear sounds we can't hear on both ends of the spectrum, particularly the higher end.

Precautions per the Deergard instruction manual:

"Even though the top range of the DeerGard, 25 kHz, is above human hearing range (which averages, at top level, about 16 kHz), the intensity is great enough to present a chance of damage to the ear if it is directly exposed for an extended period of time at a distance of less than 10 feet. These units should definitely not be located at or near a place where someone will be located for a long time. Normally, this type of unit is located outside pointing away from a house or structure, and thus presents no problem when located in this manner. We suggest that when you are sitting or working within range of the unit, you turn it off, as human presence will normally deter the pests.

  • As with any electrical device, do not place the unit in or near water and do not mount it while standing in or surrounded by water.
  • Do not aim the product into neighboring yards or public areas, or at caged or leashed animals.
  • It is intended for use on your own property only. Some people with good high frequency hearing will be able to hear the unit at its lower frequencies. If this occurs, select a higher frequency."

As with other pest control measure, the Deergard works better when used along with other methods such as Deer Scram Organic Granules, ScootDeer Spray , Deer Fortress or protective garden netting.

Hope this helps. Thanks for your question. Remember the Deer Gard, Yard Gard and Balcony Gard are all actually the same unit in different colors. What all will do is get rid of pest birds, too. So place them where you want zero birds or your feeders will be empty.

    Sincerely, Barbara
  • Will a Yardguard Effect an Indoor Cat?

    by Barbara 16. February 2008 07:11

Q: Re: YardGard Electronic Animal Repeller. "I want to get rid of the neighbors dog, but will this product effect my INDOOR cat? We do open windows, so please advise."

Answer: If you aim the unit away from your home into an open area, the YardGard will not effect your indoor cat even with windows open. Ultrasonic sound waves behave more like light rays rather than sound waves. So they will be absorbed into solid fences, walls, etc. The bounce back is virtually zero. Note: When red light is on, the unit is sending out sounds. After the animal passes by, the unit shuts off with in 5 to 10 seconds. The manufacturer states the average area coverage is 35 feet wide x 75 feet deep by 6 feet high.

I do suggest that you use the AC adapter if possible, at least initially. Use the "on" always position. Mount the unit at approximately the head level of the nuisance dog. To be a good neighbor, aim the unit so that the coverage is only of your yard.

    Thanks for the inquiry.

    Sincerely, Barbara

Staying Dry Using a Water Scarecrow

    by Barbara 6. July 2007 06:30
Q: "I want to buy a Water Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler (ES-CRO-101) to keep deer, dogs and cats out of my yard. I have to go through a gate to turn the water supply on and off. How can I avoid getting sprayed? What is the cost of shipping?"

Answer: You probably would get sprayed unless you aim the unit in such a way that you can sneak behind it. The good news is that it would only be a few cups of water. The sensor detection zone for the Scarecrow is 35 feet deep and 45 feet wide. Shipping costs vary according to your zipcode and how you want it shipped.

Another option is the L. R. Nelson Remote control water shut off that uses a pocket remote control. It works up to 100 ft. Costs $45 to $50. We don't sell these at Safe Home Products. You can find them in hardware stores or on the internt.

Please contact us again if you have more questions.

    Sincerely,

    Barbara
